For this first assignment we were asked to start with this prompt and go from there.
She approached the unfamiliar door and nervously took the key from her pocket. She took a deep breath, unlocked the door, paused then opened it. To her horror she saw…

Darkness. Total and utter darkness. The light from the hallway was eaten up by it. She was afraid to step in. Staying at the threshold and hanging onto the door jam, she reached around the edges on both sides feeling around for a light switch. There was noting there on either side.
Hesitantly she spoke the words of the spell she’d just learned. The elven words rolled off her tongue and she heard her words become soft, whispering into the darkness.
There it was. The pinprick of light. It grew and grew, and the white illuminated the dark, chasing it away as it retreated. There was still noting there. Now it was only light, white light.
She decided to dip a toe in to feel if there was stability within. There was. Gingerly she stepped in with one foot, then the other. A couple more steps in and she was startled by the door slamming shut behind her. Running back she tried to open it again. Alas, it was locked. She had no choice but to go forward into this strange space.
She looked around and around but only light surrounded her. Then, suddenly she saw a speck. It was growing in size. It was black. It fanned out and turned into streamers of black coming at her from all sides. She tried to scream but nothing came out. With tears streaming down her face, it darkened the space again and started climbing up her body. A cold river of blackness flowing up her body and then, nothing.
