I have started this entry too many times in my head. I felt it time to get it out and onto a page.
To start, just a snippet about my beliefs:
I believe that a woman should have the right to be completely in charge of her own body.
I believe women should be paid the same as men do.
I care about our environment and even though the earth will live through and flourish after the fall of humans, I love nature and don’t want to see it fall in my or my nieces and nephews lifetime.
In that same light I am not a supporter of fracking as I believe we need to find a way to mainstream non toxic transportation.
I think to get a gun, you should have to go through a background check of your mental facilities and criminal record. Because obviously people who shouldn't have weapons are shooting up children and club goers like maniacs.
I think assault weapons should only be for the military in times of war.
I think that the rich should be taxed in the same way the middle class is taxed.
I believe that the Gay+ (the entire community of the alphabet of humans), should be able to get married if they want to. Not to mention to have the same rights as straight people.
I believe that people of all color yes ALL color should be able to live in a fair and unbiased world without hate.
I believe that the only religion that should be allowed in schools is all of them in history class. This includes wiccan, agnostic and atheism. Teach the children religions. Show them the history and the ways that different people praise whatever god, goddess or nature that they connect with.
I believe that Columbus Day should be changed to Indigenous peoples day, permanently, written into law.
I believe that anyone who is caucasian white does not have the right to push people away who seek refuge from another country. White people are all ancestors of immigrants.
I am sure I could go on and on. But I just wanted to lay down my beliefs before continuing on.
My main drive for writing this is because I am seeing some of my friends showing their concerns for things similar to the above. They show no support for either candidate. Which has me worried.
Obviously the evil orange man is not the right choice in any universe. Well maybe one where evil reigns and everyone is happy with that I guess. He is a horrible human being and it just baffles me as to why someone would vote for a felon, sex offender and failed business man.
On the other side, (not the good side, just another side) we have a woman. I am excited to see a woman in office as president. There are still entirely too many men in the political spaces which will make it difficult for her to do the good things she wants to do, but I am going to vote for her. A former prosecutor, a stepmom, and someone who has been there for people who need help is an obvious “better” choice.
Now, I know some of you are thinking, “but she supports fracking!” or whatever else she might support that you/I don’t agree with. I know, I get it, and it sucks.
But
We live in a country that is pretty much only A or B. Democrat or Republican. And this year, we don’t have that. This year we have a Democrat/Republican hybrid, or a pure evil.
I get it. I want a candidate to vote for that I can believe in. One that believes what I believe. But that person, voting year after voting year, doesn’t make it forward enough to make an impact. They don’t have enough money, they don’t have enough support, they don’t make it to the top of a ballot because there aren’t enough of us who want these things. In the past, I’ve voted for Bernie. He’s a bit intense at times but I love the guy and his passionate hope for us. I’d vote for Pete as well if he were to make it onto the final ballot. But you know what. By voting for people like them. We risk losing the vote to the "evil" that is running against the "not as evil" that is running.
This is the way our country is. And it sucks. I’ve always dispized the term “It is what it is” but there it is. There are too many splits in views. And us as voters want a wide range of things. Apparently there are not enough people like me and people like the friends I mentioned at the beginning of this. And, because of that, we have to continue voting for the not as evil. We have to vote for the one that is “Better. Not good, not what I want, but, better than the alternative.”
